Where the programs stand

Our mission is to promote the provision of basic needs to everyone on earth through financial innovation. Three programs carry that work. This page sets out what each one does, how it serves the mission, and the numbers as they stand today.

How to read this page

Politics is how the world forms its will. Finance is how that decision gets carried out. We take the will to meet basic needs as given, and treat the missing part as a financing problem, which is a problem that can be worked on. Each program below is one line of attack.

Every program is shown three ways: what it is, how it serves the mission, and where it stands today against the global scope we are aiming at. We publish the small numbers as readily as the large ones. Read more about the mission.

Global Financial Innovation COIL class

A course in financial innovation taught jointly by instructors in different countries, with students working in mixed international teams.

Collaborative Online International Learning puts one classroom in two or more places at once. Two instructors agree on a term, a shared syllabus and a set of joint assignments, and their students work together across the distance for the length of the course.

Our version is built on the Globefin curriculum, so both sides teach the same universal frameworks while each brings its own market to the table. Students are put on teams that cross borders by design. A financing structure that looks obvious in one country turns out to be illegal, unaffordable or unnecessary in another, and the argument that follows is the lesson.

How it serves the mission

Basic needs are financed by people, and people learn their trade somewhere. A generation of financiers who treat the whole world as their working scope, and who have already collaborated across it as students, is the most durable thing we can build toward the mission.

Status. The course runs with a small group of partner instructors while we settle the shared syllabus and the team structure.

Global scope. A standing class any instructor anywhere can join, with teams in every region and every time zone, so that finance is learned as a global subject from the first week.

Web Page Challenges

Open invitations to build one self-contained web page that demonstrates an idea in financial innovation, published in our Sandbox and running live in the browser.

A challenge poses a problem and asks for a single page in reply. No servers, no accounts, no build step: one file that runs where anybody can open it. Members build them with AI, draw on our data and on public sources, and publish them in the Sandbox for anyone to try or take apart.

The format is deliberately small. A page can be written in an afternoon, which means an idea can be tested long before anyone has to commit money to it, and a person with no institution behind them can put working evidence in front of the world.

How it serves the mission

Most financing ideas for basic needs die as slides. A working page is cheap enough to make, and concrete enough to argue with, so the good ones can be found quickly and the rest can be discarded without loss.

Status. We are developing a Personal Financial Management (PMF) Challenge for Kentucky.

Global scope. A challenge open in every market and every language, and a public library of working tools aimed at basic needs that anyone can copy, adapt and run where they live.

Innovation Updates

A regular briefing on what is being invented in finance and where, backed by a searchable knowledge base of the companies, people and sources behind each development.

Each update reports developments from markets around the world and files them in the knowledge base: who did it, what they did, where the information came from. The record is searchable and available as an API, so it can be used as research material rather than only read.

The value is in the breadth. Trade coverage concentrates on a few large markets, which leaves most of the world invisible to the people who would benefit from copying it. We are trying to hold the whole picture.

How it serves the mission

An innovation that solves a financing problem in one country is often the answer to the same problem somewhere else, and nobody finds out. A complete, current, freely available record is how a good idea travels.

Status. Publishing weekly, with coverage widening as we add sources outside the major financial centres.

Global scope. Every market on earth covered, the small and under-reported ones included, kept current and kept free, so an innovation in one country is known and usable in all the others.

Help us move the numbers

Every figure on this page is small next to where it is going, which is the point of publishing it. We are looking for instructors to teach a section, members to take on a challenge, and anyone who would like to help build the platform itself.
